Velda BV from Enschede is a supplier of a wide range of pond products. The company is market leader in the Benelux and an influential player in other European countries. At Velda, innovation comes first and we are constantly looking for product improvements. At Velda they know better than anyone that knowledge of water quality is very important, especially when it comes to keeping fish and plants. For this reason, Brunelco was commissioned by Velda to develop the AquaTesterPro.

This tester measures the most important water values in just a few seconds. This makes it easy to check the water quality. The digital test results can be sent via Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet. The accompanying app uses the values for a complete diagnosis of the water and can also show historical values.

The following techniques have been used in the development of the AquaTesterPro:

• Bluetooth
• Low Power/ Battery Powered: Even when the device is switched off, old values are remembered with low battery consumption.
• Sensor technique: Measuring strip is analyzed with a sensor

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

We used this technique not only to send measurement data, but also to give Velda the possibility to implement possible future features (e.g. new strips) in the field. However, for security reasons we have shielded this update. The update files are encrypted and have specific features that only allow legitimate updates. This encryption also makes copying the AquaTesterPro very difficult. We like to think along with our customers and we find security and the protection of your IP very important.

Short time to market

In July 2018 we started the development of the AquaTesterPro. Despite long delivery times of components, we were able to realize a short time to market. The product will appear on the market in this first quarter of 2019.

Design for manufacturing

We have thought carefully about the optimal price for the product. This enabled us to make the costs of the entire production chain visible to Velda as early as during the design process. This also optimised the testability.

Cooperation with Brunelco Production

The unique combination of Brunelco Engineering and Brunelco Production allows components to be purchased strategically. By reserving stocks on time, we ensure that the customer can roll out immediately at the end of the total product development. In addition, the total lead time is short and efficient because we produce and test the product.
